A daycare to home baby log, so the day sheet and the evening line up
The centre hands you a day sheet at 5 pm, the evening runs on it, and by bedtime nobody can remember whether the last bottle was 120 or 180.
How do I keep a baby log across daycare and home?
Treat the centre’s day sheet as one carer’s entries and copy the parts that matter, last bottle, last sleep, last nappy, into the same log the evening runs on. In BubSync that takes a minute at pick-up, and with Premium live sharing the partner doing bedtime sees a whole day rather than two halves.
Morning: home to centre
The baby card shows the last feed, sleep and nappy, which is exactly what the sign-in sheet asks for.
Evening: centre to home
Enter the day sheet at pick-up, at the times on the sheet, so the evening timeline shows the real gaps.
Honest limit
BubSync does not connect to daycare software. This page is the manual method, and it works.
What should the centre know in the morning?
The sign-in sheet asks the same three things every day: when the last feed was and how much, when your baby woke, and anything unusual. The baby card in BubSync shows the last feed, sleep and nappy change at a glance, so the morning form is copied from the phone rather than reconstructed in the car park. Anything that stands, allergies, how they are settled, what they cannot have, lives in the care essentials and instruction manual, written once and read from whenever the centre asks.
What should you capture from the day sheet at pick-up?
Four things, and it takes about a minute at the door or in the car. Each bottle, with the time and how much was taken rather than offered. Each sleep, with the start and the end. The nappy count, wet and dirty. And anything the educator flagged, as a note. Enter each at the time on the sheet, not the time you are typing, so the evening timeline shows the real gap since the last bottle and the real length of the last nap.
A note that says "daycare" on those entries is worth the extra tap. In a fortnight, when the child health nurse asks how the weekday feeds compare with the weekend, the answer is already sorted.
- Bottles: time and volume taken, entered at the time on the sheet
- Sleeps: start and end, so the wake window into bedtime is right
- Nappies: the count, wet and dirty
- Anything flagged: as a note against the day
Why does the evening carer need the daycare half?
Because bedtime decisions depend on it. How long the baby has been awake since the last nap decides whether the bath comes before or after the bottle; how much they drank during the day decides whether the 6 pm feed is a top-up or a meal. Without the daycare half, the person doing bedtime is guessing at both, and the guess is usually "give them more and hope".
With the day sheet entered, the partner who did not do pick-up sees the whole day on their own phone: the last bottle at daycare, the last sleep at daycare, and the gap since each. Live sharing between accounts is a Premium feature; one parent entering the day sheet and reading it back is free.
Can the educator log directly into the app?
Sometimes. A family day care educator with one or two children, who is happy to use their own phone, can be invited as a carer scoped to your child on Premium, and then logs feeds, sleep and nappies into the same timeline as you. That is exactly what role-scoped access is for.
A long day care centre almost never will, and it is worth saying plainly why: centres run their own software for attendance, records and the day sheet, and BubSync does not connect to it. The manual method on this page exists because that is the honest situation for most families. If a centre already runs a parent app you are asked to use, matching the centre beats any feature on this site.
How much of this is worth doing every day?
The first weeks of care, and any week feeding changes. Once a rhythm is obvious, most families enter the day sheet only when something is off: a short day of bottles, a nap that did not happen, a nappy count that dropped. The point of the log is the week the pattern shifts, and a log you keep for those weeks beats one you abandon in the first because it asked too much.

Frequently asked questions
- Does BubSync connect to my daycare centre’s app?
- No. Centres run their own software for attendance and day sheets, and BubSync does not integrate with it. This page describes the manual method: copy the day sheet into the log at pick-up, at the times on the sheet.
- Can I enter entries at the time they happened rather than now?
- Yes. Set the time on an entry to the time on the day sheet, so the timeline shows the real gap since the last bottle and the real length of the last nap rather than the moment you typed it.
- Which app do daycare centres use?
- It varies by centre. Where a centre asks families to use a specific app, matching the centre is worth more than any feature difference; in Australia that is often Baby Connect, which has a Professional plan for centres and is compared with BubSync on its own page.
- Can a family day care educator have their own login?
- Yes. Invite them as a carer scoped to your child and they log from their own account, on their own phone, into the same timeline as you. Role-scoped sharing is a Premium feature, and one subscription covers every carer.
- Is the daycare half really worth entering?
- In the first weeks of care and any week feeding changes, yes, because bedtime decisions depend on the last bottle and the last nap. Once the rhythm is obvious, most families enter it only on the days something was off.
